Colne Bank School of Dancing

COME AND JOIN OUR DANCING FAMILY……. Pop along for a trial. If you don’t enjoy it, then no fees are payable, but we are sure you will!

Colne Bank School of Dancing was originally founded by Mavis Cooke in Elmstead Market. During the early 1970s and for 30 years classes were based at The Wivenhoe Centre, Phillip Road. We have held our classes at Broomgrove Schools since September 2013 - both Junior and Infant Schools have been extremely supportive of Colne Bank and we feel like part of the family. Most pupils dance for fun, but several have forged successful dance careers, both as performers and teachers.

Children can start with us from 3 years of age, where ballet is taught with varying styles of music to encourage musicality, co-ordination, deportment, confidence and discipline. At five-years old, pupils can take both ballet and tap, modern is introduced at Grade 2 and Jazz from Grade 3. Pupils who wish to do modern and jazz must also take a weekly ballet class. This develops a strong core stability, essential for all dance genres.

Every pupil in the school will be given the chance to study for examinations, with the opportunity of being entered if all the examination classes have been attended and the required standard has been achieved. We provide comprehensive training in ballet, modern theatre, tap and jazz, following the I.S.T.D syllabus and Examination board. Should students not want to be entered for the examinations we move them up to the next level as and when we feel they are ready.

UCAS points can be gained for examinations at Grade 6 and Intermediate level.

Our Productions are held biannually at Essex University Lakeside Theatre, where a cast of approx. 100 pupils Grade 2 and above perform for week. Students below this level perform their classwork for parents and grandparents at the last lessons of each term.

We also have the privilege of inviting Colne Bank alumni back to do workshops with our students. Many of our Alumni have danced on Cruise Ships, Touring Productions, in The West End and on Broadway; others have forged amazing careers as teachers and choreographers.

A registration form must be completed. By doing so, you are indicating that you agree to comply with the rules and regulations of the school. Fees are strictly payable within 14 days of the beginning of each financial term. Fees not paid in this period will be subject to a 5% surcharge.
